The Kings Stand Stakes at Ascot

Distinctive Passion, winner of last seasons Kings Stand, went into the gate as the favorite and just barely managed to find enough much to the delight of his backers.

Lanes End sent out Distinctive Passion a 5 year old horse who had amassed 10 wins in 17 starts and over $1,000 in lifetime earnings to defend his title in the Kings Stand Stakes.  This year, due to a format change he was facing a full field of 15 and numerous horses with their own acclaim.  After a slow start Esteban Lezcano guided him through traffic to get up and beat Chappie to the wire by a neck. Road Warrior Hawk owned and trained by Clubsboy made a good accounting for himself after a disappointing effort in last season’s Breeders Cup Turf Sprint.  This four-year-old gelded son of Malibu Moon has proven to be a game competitor and should have done enough to earn himself a shot at the championship series this season.  This race shows just how competitive the turf sprint division is for older horses and we look forward to seeing these quality horses on the track for the remainder of their careers.
